We set ourselves the challenge of representing all the seasons. The problem was that we had much less than a year to do it. That gave us two options. Either we get on a plane and go on a journey around the world looking for ideal locations. Or we go back to one of our strengths: CG.
Since we had to create scenes with dense foliage, trees and wildlife and render them in full resolution on massive video walls, the classic approach of rendering with ray tracing was not an option, so we created everything in the Unity game engine and real-time rendering. Photogrammetry and hand-crafted assets mixed with custom shaders and post-FX magic made it all possible. Once again we missed the chance to take a trip around the world.
